At its launch at the tail end of 2022, the BYD Atto 3 certainly wasn’t the first BEV to go on sale in Malaysia, but few BEVs enjoyed such popularity among Malaysians eager to get into their first BEV. The Atto 3 surpassed 1,000 orders just 10 days after launch, soon after becoming Malaysia’s best-selling BEV in 2023.

Blending sharp looks, practicality, and great value for money – it was the right product at the right time. However, the BEV market has since ballooned in Malaysia, with no less than 40 BEV models on sale currently – the Atto 3 was the 19th model to be introduced here – and thus the Atto 3 may have faded slightly into the background.

However, on the plus side, there are quite a few great deals on used and pre-owned Atto 3s that have turned up on WapCar’s Cars for Sale page. Let’s take a closer look.

Overview

The BYD Atto 3 is offered in Malaysia in two variants. At launch, the Standard variant was priced at RM 150,430, while the Extended variant cost RM 168,430.

However, authorized distributor Sime Darby Beyond Auto (SDBA) recently started offering RM 20,000 in cash rebates for the 2023 manufacturing year BYD Atto 3s (MY2023). With rebates, the Atto 3 Standard is priced at RM 130,430, and the Extended at RM 148,430.

In terms of powertrains, both Atto 3 variants feature a front-mounted electric motor producing 203 PS and 310 Nm of torque.

The Standard variant comes with a 49.92 kWh battery, offering a range of 410 km NEDC (345 km WLTP), while the Extended variant has a 60.48 kWh battery with a range of 480 km NEDC (420 km WLTP).

Inside, both variants include a 5-inch digital instrument cluster and the novel 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Extended variant adds an 8-speaker Dirac HD Sound system and a wireless charger.

Both variants are equipped with 7 airbags, ABS, traction control, an electronic stability program, and ISOFIX tethers. Advanced safety features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, collision warnings, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.

As standard, BYD offers a 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, and an 8-year/150,000 km warranty for the drive unit. 

Why buy a pre-owned BYD Atto 3?

For starters, with prices starting at just RM 105,000, the Atto 3 (Standard) can be had for just under RM 45k cheaper than a brand new unit, and around RM 25k cheaper even if we consider the current (MY2023) rebates by SDBA.

That aside, at less than 2 years old, most units are very new and have mileages of less than 10,000 km, which means these units still have many years of reliable motoring ahead of them as well as a manufacturer warranty for up to another 4 years, still intact.

Note, however, the Atto 3 Standard variants start at the lower RM 105k price bracket, the Extended range variants typically start a bit higher at approximately RM 120k.
