Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the new (W223) Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift which incorporates new tech updates as well as new safety features to further enhance its flagship model.

In terms of aesthetics, the changes are minimal, introducing two new exterior paint options—Verde Silver Metallic and Velvet Brown Metallic.

On the inside the S-Class facelift adds newly designed front head restraints featuring additional cushioning, ensuring greater comfort over long journeys.

It’s much the same with the powertrain where the S-Class facelift still features the same fourth-generation hybrid powertrains introduced during the model’s initial introduction in 2021.

In the case of the Malaysian market, that is the S580e which features the (M256) 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine that generates 367 PS and 500 Nm of torque. The engine is supplemented by a 150 PS/440 Nm electric motor, producing a total system output of 510 PS and 750 Nm. The engine is paired with the 9-speed (9G-Tronic) automatic transmission.

Fitted with a 28.6 kWh battery, the S580e offers a full-electric driving range of 100 km.

The bigger changes have been in the safety department. The S-Class facelift introduces a new occupant presence reminder system. This feature automatically activates to alert drivers of any passengers that are left in the rear seats.

Furthermore, the Automatic Lane Change (ALC) function, part of the Active Distance Assist Distronic with Active Steering Assist, allows the vehicle to overtake slower vehicles automatically, provided the necessary conditions are met, without any further driver input. The system also offers improved detection of road barriers (and other physical structures) between highway lanes.

The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system has also been optimized with more intuitive controls, particularly for assisted parking features, making them easier for users to navigate. Depending on the market, the S-Class facelift will also be offered with Sony Pictures ‘Ridevu' online streaming service.

Mercedes-Benz will begin taking orders for the S-Class facelift starting in April 2024 with the first batch of deliveries expected to reach buyers in Europe by the end of July. The S-Class facelift will progressively be introduced in North America and China later this year.

Closer to home, the Malaysian market pre-facelift (CKD) Mercedes-Benz S580e is offered with a pricetag starting from RM 718,888.
