Though some people find it entertaining, the usage of musical horns or more commonly known as ‘hon tenonet’ can be a bit of a nuisance to road users. As such, the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) has enforced an operation called “Ops Hon Melebihi Satu Nada” throughout the state, and those found guilty could be fined or sentenced to jail.
This operation was conducted after the department received numerous complaints from the public on these musical horns. The horns were mainly operated by lorries and buses and the term ‘hon tenonet’ came from Indonesia where it became viral.
In a statement posted on Selangor JPJ’s Facebook page, the department said that a horn is “an important instrument for a vehicle to give warnings, alerts, or signals to other road users through sound.”
It continues that “the use of horns that exceed one tone or melody can be confusing to other road users and even disrupting to those living in residential areas.”
Action could be taken under Section 119 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 with a maximum fine of RM 2,000 or a maximum jail sentence of 6 months.
In addition, vehicles that were installed with ‘hon tenonet’ will be issued with a Notice of Prohibition of the Use of Vehicles (PG1). Vehicle owners must attend an inspection at any JPJ offices to ensure that the affected vehicle has been taken corrective action in the removal of the musical horn.
Once the vehicle inspection is done, a Vehicle Use Prohibition Withdrawal Notice (PG2) will be issued. The compound needs to be completed or the case would be taken to court for further action.

Replace my old Mercedes engine or buy a new car? Two days ago, I took my car to the shop because my oil pan blew. However it is too late as my mechanic said there were metal flakes in what was left of the oil. The only way to maintain it is to replace the engine but it would cost a lot. My friend who shared with me said that it wouldn’t drive as the same after replacing and it is a great possibility that there will be wasting money. He recommended me to buy a new car. But, actually I'd like to keep the car. Because it is a reliable car that always provides comfort and excellent driving experience to me beside the maintenance matter. Btw, it only had about 200K km on it when this happened. What's everyone's experience with replacing an engine? Which is the better choice for me between replacing my old Mercedes engine or buying a new car??
