In an incident that happened in Bandar Baru Bangi, police officers were faced with a life-threatening situation where the Perodua Alza they were attempting to investigate drove off with their colleague clinging on the bonnet for dear life. The 40-second video has since gone viral on social media.
Berita Harian reports that the officer that jumped on the bonnet of the Alza to prevent the car from escaping was forced to hang on for about 150 m before he fell off. Unfortunately, the Alza was able to escape while the officer sustained minor injuries.
Kajang District Police Chief, Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan, told the daily that around 10.30 pm Tuesday night, the Alza first drew the suspicion of the police officers as it sat idling in a restaurant car park.
After knocking on the windows, officers discovered that there were a woman and a man in the car. Instead of facing the police, the Alza driver sped off, running over a police motorcycle and several traffic cones.
Though the Alza managed to escape the scene, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) were able to track down the car and arrest both suspects at around 3 am on the same night.
The suspects, aged 19 and 20 respectively, will be investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving.

Other than that, the suspects will also be investigated under Section 186, Section 307, and Section 332 of the Penal Code for obstructing an officer on duty, attempted murder, and injuring a civil servant.
At the moment the reason for the Alza’s hasty escape is still unknown and PDRM is still investigating the case. Meanwhile, Zaid has called to the public who has information about the incident to contact Inspector Mu’az Mazlan at 017-978 8804.
