While the regular Xingyue is a sporty SUV coupe, the Xingyue L is positioned to be Geely’s flagship SUV armed with the best luxury and technologies in Geely’s arsenal.

Also based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform shared with the Volvo XC40 and Lynk & Co models, the Xingyue L is the largest car to be using this platform yet.

What engine is in the Geely Xingyue L?

All variants of the Xingyue L get the Volvo’s Drive-E 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine but paired with 2 transmission choices.

The lower output version is paired to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission pushing out 217 PS and 325 Nm of torque.

It’s front-wheel drive only and allows the Xingyue L to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds with a claimed fuel consumption of 6.3L/100 km.

As for the more expensive models, it gets a more powerful tune of 238 PS and 350 Nm, paired to an Aisin sourced 8-speed automatic with all-wheel drive. Century sprint is dispatched in 7.7 seconds according to Geely.

What features does it have?

Highlights of the Xingyue L are on the interior where you’re greeted with dual-tone upholstery finished in leather and suede materials. On the dashboard, you’ll find a triple screen layout complete with the latest generation of GKUI operating system with 5G connectivity.

Geely claims that the Xingyue L is enabled with full firmware OTA (over the air) update which allows the car’s powertrain, infotainment, chassis, and ADAS to be upgraded over time.

Other cool stuff you’ll find include 10-speaker BOSE surround sound system, augmented reality heads-up display, panoramic sunroof, 72-colour ambient lighting, drive mode selector, and powered front seats.

Besides equipped with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving feature, the Xingyue L has an automated Valet Function. Within a 200-metre area (up to 1 km distance), the Xingyue is able to find parking spots and park itself without a driver. You can also summon the Xingyue L from the parking spot to you if you’re within range.

The Geely Xingyue L is the most luxurious and high-tech Geely model yet. Market reception in China towards this model is very positive as pre-order allocations are quickly snapped up. Given its price and features, it’s going to be another best-seller for Geely.

Editors Comment:

No, before you ask the Xingyue L will not be the “next Proton model” and Proton will not be able to rebadge this in the near future.

Why? Because this Xingyue L is way too advanced to be a Proton – CMA platform, Drive-E engine and 5G connectivity. At the present moment, Proton is unable to support the production and aftersales of a vehicle of this calibre.

And you thought flying cars would be a reality? Let’s not kid ourselves.
