Here’s how WapCar Ratings help in your buying decision

Previously, we’ve talked about what exactly is WapCar Ratings and the difference between Ratings and Reviews. Now, let’s briefly go through how Ratings can serve you, our esteemed readers, when it comes to buying a car.

To recap, the WapCar Ratings system subjects the cars through objective tests and measurements. We then compile the data and put a score on them accordingly.

Data collected will be put on a spreadsheet as shown above, which shows one of the aspects - average paint thickness (in mm) for each panel.

Every aspect is quantified and the final product is a radar chart to provide visualisation for a car’s strengths and weaknesses. With these charts, you can compare cars that are within the same segment to get a better picture of what they offer.

Let’s take the compact executive sedan segment as an example. If you compare the charts of the G20 BMW 320i and the W205 Mercedes-Benz C200, you’d be able to get a clearer picture of what these two offer.

The BMW 320i provides excellent driving performance whilst returning great fuel economy. On the other hand, the Mercedes-Benz C200 doesn’t excel at any particular area on paper.

Areas like design, aesthetic appeal, or brand image – which is what Mercedes-Benz C-Class arguably does better than just about any other in its segment – are not included in the parameters of Ratings.

As mentioned in a previous article, this is one of the differentiating factors between Ratings and Reviews. Think of Ratings as removing all superficial qualities of a car.

Lovely interior to be in. Unfortunately, the Ratings system doesn't critique design.

Another method of comparison is to utilize the ranking order in which the cars are displayed in the Ratings page. In each of the category, the cars are arranged in ascending order – most impressive numbers appear at the top and goes down accordingly.

If your priority is a fuel-efficient car, all you have to do is to check out the Ratings page and click on the fuel consumption tab. Or perhaps you’re looking a quiet cabin to travel in – simply navigate to the noise level tab and voila. From there, you can click on each of those cars for more in-depth info.

Legroom and headroom are measured, while tennis balls serve to give better visualisation.

To conclude, readers can use the WapCar Ratings as a tool for comparison and to get a clearer overall picture of what each car offers. It is a database that will keep growing as the list expands. This will widen the scope of cars and we hope that you will keep supporting us in this effort. Our many thanks!
