2021 Haval H6 starts price war in Thailand - undercuts CR-V, complicates X70's export plans

Three months after the 2021 Haval H6 Hybrid made its debut at the Bangkok Motor Show, Great Wall Motors Thailand (GWM Thailand) has revealed the highly-anticipated SUV’s prices.

For the Thai market, the 2021 Haval H6 Hybrid is priced between THB 1,149,000 (~RM 149k) to THB 1,249,000 (~RM 161k).

This puts the Haval H6 as the cheapest hybrid C-segment SUV in Thailand, undercutting rivals such as the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), which is priced at THB 1,359,000 (~RM 176k).

In fact, prices of the new Haval H6 Hybrid comfortably undercut the best-selling C-segment SUV in Thailand: the Honda CR-V. The Japanese C-segment SUV is priced between THB 1,369,000 (~RM 177k) to THB 1,759,000 (~RM 228k).

The Haval H6 Hybrid’s competitive prices also complicates the Proton X70’s entry into Thailand. As an imported (CBU) model, the Proton X70 cannot be priced competitively against locally-assembled (CKD) rivals.

To recap, the Thai market Haval H6 Hybrid get a sole powertrain option: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that is mated to an electric motor, allowing for an overall system output of 243 PS and 530 Nm. Despite its cheaper price, the Haval H6 Hybrid is packed to the brim, seeing that the model gets a full ADAS suite, a 12-inch infotainment display, a massive panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, and numerous USB charging ports.

What about Malaysia?

While GWM Thailand’s public relations team did confirm that the Haval H6 could be coming to Malaysia, the same cannot be said for the Malaysian side of things.

It remains unknown if GWM Malaysia’s distributor, Go Auto, will continue to represent the brand here, seeing that they have been rather quiet lately and has since disbanded their public relations team.
