Reason why I bought this car

After 7 years driving a Perodua Alza, I have decided that I need a more powerful car to travel to different destinations everyday. Family use - 4 members including myself.

Car selection process

  • I had a budget of: RM 60k
  • Models that I have considered include: Iriz, Myvi, Ativa, Jazz

The reason why I choose this car

I am ex-owner of 2018 picanto ja model. A very fun to drive car. This car was totally lost due to a heavy accident (luckily I was safe). So the priority for the new car needs to have  "Fun to drive" Characteristics. I went to test drive those car models on the lists, and found out that Iriz suits me the best. The powertrain, suspension, solid chassis, NVH, gave me the best driving experience among those price range cars.

When I bought the car, the first 100km mileage, before going through 1st time service, the powertrain was not so smooth. I start to regret whether it is a "National car", the quality cannot compete with other big brand companies. Then later after 1st service, the powertrain has gone better. But I'm still not satisfied. Later when the mileage reached 4500km, the car started to become like "Alive", the powertrain is so responsive and so smooth, the 1600cc engine power is totally living up as it should get.

The powertrain is responsive, the car can go easily whenever I press the pedal. The NVH is the best among the rivals. The suspension is also very suitable for malaysia roads. And the infotainment system, I love the music app joox, can select the song that I want without using a smartphone. The baidu navigation system, also nice to use, although the content is not as much as google map. Overall, the driving experience for this car is just great. And more importantly, the price that is offered is just bang for bucks, premium full spec just under 50k.

User experience

  • I have already done 6,500 km
  • My average fuel consumption is 13 km/L

Great and fun car to drive. Ride and handling are very good. NVH is surprisingly good. The powertrain is also surprisingly good. Solid chassis and body make you feel confident when cruising and taking corners. The additional advantage for this car is the seats are higher than other b-segment sedan/hatchback. Like driving an SUV, the view is better. Semi leather seat and leather wrap steering also an additional mark. Fuel consumption is totally acceptable for a 1600cc car with nearly 1.2 ton weight (japanese car only around 1.1 ton). Overall, I am very satisfied with the purchase, no regrets.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Ride and handling is very good
  • Powertrain is responsive and linear
  • NVH is very good
  • Infotainment system is quite useful. Got built in online streaming music app - joox
  • Built in online map navigation - Baidu

Cons

  • Built quality for oil cap (material seems not solid)
  • Boot space, even smaller than a segment car like picanto and axia (not much, a bit)
  • Head lamp, not bright enough
  • Hanger that is located at the front passenger head rest cushion, can become a hazard for back passengers when the car brakes.

Ratings

Total Score: 4
Performance: 4
Quality & Features: 4
Space: 4
Ride Comfort: 5
Fuel Economy: 3
Price & Cost: 5

Summary

A great car to own and drive for everyday, no matter for working or family use, it is just great. Since it's a low profile car (not expensive), now my car park outside instead of park inside  also no problem, not to scare ppl scratching it. So that my house got a larger compound to use.

Some interesting events

Use fully-synthetic oil, use same brand petrol every time, accurate tyre pressure will help on car performance.
