4-year waiting list for 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in Japan

Less than 2 months since its global debut, the all-new 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 has racked up quite a number of orders in Japan alone. Web CarTop reports a figure of 18,000 units and mentioned that it would’ve surpassed 20,000 units by now.

According to the report, the annual production quota for Japan is 5,000 units. Simple maths will tell you the waiting period has stretched to around 4 years. It’s also reported that orders are temporarily suspended in Japan until 1-August.

Meanwhile, Creative311 reported that Toyota is stopping buyers from reselling within one year of purchase. Customers in Japan are required to sign a pledge to confirm that the purchase is not for export or resale purposes.

While there have been reports stating that Toyota is preventing owners from flipping the Land Cruiser for a profit, the declaration form states, “Because there is a risk of violating foreign exchange law depending on the export destination, and it may lead to major problems that threaten global security.”

This suggests that the reasoning behind this restriction is due to concerns about the Land Cruiser 300 being used for terrorist activities.

To recap, the Land Cruiser 300 is powered by a 415 PS / 650 Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol, and a 309 PS / 700 Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel. Both are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Toyota says that some markets will a lower-spec naturally aspirated V6 engine with a 6-speed automatic option.

The Land Cruiser 300 Series’ frame is lighter and more rigid, which enables a 200-kg weight reduction, a lower centre of gravity, better weight distribution, and improved suspension structure.

It comes fitted with a Multi-Terrain Monitor system that displays obstacles that are obscured from the driver’s viewpoint, Multi-Terrain Select automatic driving mode selection function, and the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) active safety package with additional functions.
