If there’s a real-life Bunta Fujiwara, he is probably retired in a rural part of Australia. The Australian police had in a media statement released today, said they had stopped an 80-year old driver of a GC8 Subaru Impreza WRX yesterday, for driving 182 km/h in a 100 km/h zone in South Australia’s lower Mid North region.
The elderly driver was handed a fine of AUD 1,814 (about RM 5,500) and a temporary 6-month suspension on his driving license.
The driver was stopped along a typically rural Australian road – long straight roads with nothing but open farm land on either sides – near Alma, an hour north of Adelaide.
In case you still don’t understand the pop culture reference, Bunta Fujiwara is a fictional character from the anime/manga series Initial D. He is a retired street racer who now lives a quiet life in Gunma, making tofus.
On some nights, he hits the mountain roads with his Impreza WRX coupe to put his son Takumi’s AE86 Toyota Trueno in his place, reminding him that his old man still has a couple of tricks up his sleeve.
