Basic information about my car:

2021 Perodua Ativa 1.0L T (AV)

Reasons why I bought this car(purpose)

  • I was at the Perodua showroom on the day of the Perodua Ativa being unveiled. After I sat in the car and looked at the interior and took into consideration the Ride height, I immediately made up my decision that this will be my next car.
  • After paying the booking fee and my car loan has been approved the procedure upon getting the car was very quick as I have only waited 1 week and the SA contacted me stating that my car has arrived.

Car selection process

● I had a budget of: 100K

● New Honda City, Used Honda Tucson, Proton X50 Flagship and Used Honda HR.

Reasons why I chose this car

First thing, came into my mind was maintenance cost, considering this is a new car hence I would presumed the maintenance cost would be much less compared to the used car as I have previously bought a Used Proton Preve hence I would think it's a wiser choice for me to get a new car instead.

User Experience

  • I have done: 3,400km
  • My average fuel consumption is 17km/l

Good Ride & Handling, this is expected from the new DNGA platform

Performance wise, I would say it's acceptable coming from a 1.6L Turbo Proton Preve engine. I would say the 1.0L is more refined and more fuel efficient.

There is so minor faults on the electrical components, as there is one day after I had a car wash there is an error indicator popped up upon when  I start the car, have send to SC to check and the foreman told me it's due to water entered into the wiring socket (Come on Perodua) please improve the cover and protection of the wirings.

Another problem is I noticed there is a loud noise on the rear suspension upon when I go through bumps, which I have actually send it to Perodua SC to get it rectified at first they told me they have tighten the screws around the rear suspension, which after that there is no more noise however, after few months passed the noise returned once again, have send back to SC and they did the same thing again, for now the sound is no longer there (for the time being).

Pros and Cons

Pros of my car

  1. Excellent Ride & Handling
  2. Great cabin sound isolation
  3. Reasonable fuel consumption as I was able to go 400km with RM60 fuel in town usage, yet to test outstation due to MCO
  4. The D-CVT gearbox is very refined, just that since it's a CVT the whining is very loud once you're on full throttle.
  5. Reasonable price with all the safety features which is packed in the (AV) Variant.
  6. Acceptable Luggage capacity.

Cons

  1. The 3 cylinder engine vibration is indeed intrusive to the cabin at times especially when the car stops at traffic light, the vibration can be felt at the gas pedal and also on the steering wheel.
  2. The audio player feels a bit outdated given this time and age, as it feels laggy when you swipe on the player screen worst of all it does not comes with Android Auto and Apple Carplay which is a big
  3. letdown.
  4. I noticed many people condemn the sound quality of the speakers, as for me I would say it's just average quality, it's in the middle category between good and bad.
  5. The car does not come with auto wipers which I felt it's a minor letdown as my Proton Preve comes with auto headlight and wiper function.
  6. The backseat support is not really great, as it will be quite tiring for the back passenger if travel outstation, I have considered this factor before purchasing this car hence it's acceptable for me as usually the backseats are vacant.
  7. No DRL, which I feel in this day and age is also not acceptable, unless Perodua reserves the DRL for the upcoming facelift version of the Perodua Ativa.
  8. Not sure why Perodua did not provide the teh tarik hook & the anti-natch handbag hook this time round.

Ratings:

Total Score: 5

Performance: 4

Quality & Features: 5

Space: 5

Ride comfort: 5

Fuel Economy: 5

Price & cost: 5

Summary:

Overall this is great value buy car considering all the safety features it is packed in this car and the price perodua is offering, people often compare the Ativa along with X50k, do note that they are completely on a different league given the RM30K price difference between the Ativa (AV) & the X50 Flagship and mainly the interior & the ADAS function as the X50 ADAS function is more advanced and the interior has more premium feel.
If I were to be given a chance to reconsider my option I would say, I would still have gotten the Perodua Ativa once more.
