As if Malaysians need another reason not to migrate to RFID, a video of the RFID gantry failing went viral just a day after the announcement to phase out Touch ‘n Go and SmartTag lanes along the North-South Highway.
While RFID was introduced in 2019, complaints about the system persisted until today. For this instance, the gantry gate in the RFID lane closed before the car was able to drive out of the toll booth.

As the car was still moving, it crashed into the gantry gate and knocked it off its stand. The video later revealed that the gate had damaged the front windscreen as well as the sides.
According to the uploader, he or she has already informed the highway authority about the incident and yet nothing has been done about the damage.

We hope Touch ‘n Go will resolve all common issues that RFID users face by the time Touch ‘n Go and SmartTag lanes are thoroughly phased out.
