Priced from RM 88k, GAC GS3 is here to challenge the Proton X50, comes with Apple CarPlay

After months of spyshots and teasers, Warisan TC Holdings's new subsidiary WTC Automotif has launched the B-segment GAC GS3 in Malaysia. The new Proton X50 challenger is priced from RM 88,800 to RM 96,800. This also marks the debut of right-hand drive GAC models. 

At the moment, the GAC GS3 is imported (CBU) from China, with local assembly (CKD) to start in the near future. Two variants are offered at launch.

While buyers in China get the option of a turbocharged engine, in Malaysia, the sole engine option is a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that does 114 PS and 150 Nm

In China, the GAC GS3 can be had with a 6-speed manual or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic, the latter is available in Malaysia.

As for the GAC GS3's dimensions, it is 4,350 mm long, 1,825 mm wide, and 1,685 mm tall. It has a 2,560 mm wheelbase.

Standard equipment on the GAC GS3 include halogen headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, and a leatherette steering wheel with audio controls.

As for its safety suite, the GAC GS3 offers a decent suite of features, like 6 airbags (4 on the Standard variant), Blind Spot Detection (BSD, only on the Premium variant), stability control, rear-view camera, and seat belt warning for all seats.

Four colours are available on the Premium variant, namely Rosefinch Red with black roof, Ivory White with black roof, and Lunar Grey with body-coloured roof. The Standard variant can be had with Lunar Grey, Ivory White, or Starlight Silver.

The GAC GS3 is covered by a 5-year/150,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and comes with free labour charge for five scheduled services.
