All-new 2022 Toyota Voxy launched in Indonesia, baby Vellfire starts from RM 163k

  • Indonesia is the second market for the all-new Voxy
  • Only one petrol variant is offered
  • Should UMWT bring this into Malaysia?

A little over a month after its debut in Japan, the all-new fully-imported (CBU) 2022 Toyota Voxy has just been launched in Indonesia, making the archipelago the second country to launch the baby Vellfire. Unlike the at least 20 variants offered in Japan, the Indo-spec Voxy is only available in one variant.

The sole variant of the all-new Voxy starts from IDR 558.2 million (~RM 163k) which is an IDR 47 million (~RM 14k) bump from the previous-generation Voxy.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Voxy’s twin, the Noah missed out on the boat bound for Jakarta. The second-generation Noah, on the other hand, was sold and assembled in Indonesia where it was called the NAV1. Due to the NAV1’s poor reception, PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) replaced it with the Voxy which was imported from Japan.

The previous Voxy was successful in spite of the expensive price and TAM is hopeful that the all-new Voxy, will mirror its predecessor’s success. Indulgence is the keyword for the all-new Voxy and as we’ve seen during the Japanese debut, the latest mini Vellfire sports an elegant face.

Most prominent is the massive grille that might be inspired by Lexus as there are hints of the trademark spindle grille design just below the headlamps.

Inside, the indulgence is further enhanced with a flexible seating arrangement allowing the second-row seats to be moved all the way to the back with the third-row seats folded to the side. This turns the 7-seater into a luxurious 4-seater similar to a Lexus LM. Our very own VIPs must be salivating at the prospect of a replacement for the Vellfire.

Besides the ability to enhance rear legroom space, the Indonesian-spec Voxy also comes with an 11.6-inch overhead rear-seat entertainment display. Finally, some use for those DVDs that have been gathering dust for the past decade.

The ease of accessibility doesn’t stop there as the Voxy comes with automatic sliding doors with kick sensors, allowing the rear doors to open without holding the handle. Another useful feature is the power tailgate with a side button that allows the owner to adjust the opening angle even if there are obstacles around.

Other features on the all-new Toyota Voxy include:

  • 7-inch TFT LCD multi-information display
  • Head-up display
  • Heated side mirrors
  • 6 USB ports
  • Wireless charger
  • Air purifier
  • 9-inch infotainment screen
  • Panoramic view monitor

The sole Voxy variant is powered by a 2.0-litre Dynamic Force engine that makes 170 PS and 202 Nm. This unit is paired with a Direct-Shift CVT automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.

Equipped with the Voxy is the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0 ADAS suite which features Pre-collision System (PCS), Lane Tracing Assist (LCA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Automatic High Beam (AHB).

Though the Voxy has been officially launched in Indonesia, this might not guarantee that UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) would bring it over into Malaysia. The Voxy and its Noah twin are more likely to be sold here via grey imports instead and even then, it isn’t as widely popular as its bigger brothers, the Alphard and Vellfire.
