Less than 3 months left for SST-free prices – Which brands can deliver cars before tax cut expires in June?

After slightly more than 2 years, SST-free car prices will soon come to an end on 30-June 2022. With less than 3 months left, let’s take a closer look and see which brands can deliver their cars to customers on time. Do note that we spoke to brand that were exhibitors at PACE.

In order to get a better understanding, we spoke to several car manufacturers to see which models can delivered before the SST-free period ends.

Mercedes-Benz

According to sales personnel we spoke to, models like the Mercedes-Benz A200 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz E200 can be delivered on time.

However, for Mercedes-Benz SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Mercedes-Benz GLC, or even the Mercedes-Benz GLE, the waiting period stretches beyond 30-June.

BMW

Unlike Mercedes-Benz SUVs that cannot be delivered within the SST-free period, sales personnel for BMW mentioned to us that the BMW X1 and BMW X5 can be delivered on time. Ditto to BMW’s entry-level model, the BMW 218i Gran Coupe.

For models like the BMW 320i and BMW X4, deliveries before 30-June could be tough. As for the BMW 5 Series, deliveries before the SST-free period depends on the colour chosen by the buyer.

Hyundai

The recently-launched Ioniq 5 can be delivered before the SST-free period ends, but according to the sales people we spoke to, that’s limited to the Lite variant.

This means the prices could see a small bump as deliveries after 30-June 2022 will incur 10% SST on the Ioniq 5's pricing.

However, seeing as it’s a fully-imported (CBU Korea) BEV, prices for it will still be exempt from import and excise duties, as well as road tax, until 31-December 2023.

Elsewhere, models like the Starex and Santa Fe have a minimal waiting period, while the Kona’s waiting period is subject to the colour chosen. Hyundai’s largest SUV, the Palisade, also has a waiting period that could stretch beyond 30-June.

Volvo

The waiting period for Volvo are model-dependent and sales personnel whom we spoke to did not divulge into exact details.

If you want to buy a new car to take advantage of the SST-free prices, it’s best to check with your respective sales personnel to find out if deliveries can be made before 30-June.
