Own a Mercedes-Benz made between 2004 - 2016? Check if your vehicle is involved in the Takata Airbag Recall

Following an earlier announcement in 2021, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is reminding customers to check if their cars are included in the company's safety recall program to replace defective Takata Airbag modules.

The recall program involves selected sedan, SUV and coupe / convertible models, produced between 2004 - 2016

This recall program is part of a global recall of affected Mercedes-Benz cars, vans and trucks.

The Mercedes-Benz recall program has been effectively executed in close partnership with Joyson Safety Systems (the successor organization of Takata).

Throughout its global recall exercise, the company says it has upheld transparency and stringent quality controls in line with the company's legacy of the highest levels of occupant safety in all its vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and Mercedes-Benz Group AG further assure customers that all current Mercedes-Benz passenger cars are no longer equipped with Takata (or any other manufacturer) airbags that utilise ammonium nitrate as the primary propellant.

The following 2004 - 2016 production year Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles have been identified under the recall program:

  • W169 A-Class
  • W203 C-Class
  • W204 C-Class
  • W212 E-Class
  • W251 R-Class
  • X204 GLK-Class
  • X164 ML- and GL-Class
  • R/C207 E-Class Coupe/Convertible
  • R171 SLK
  • R/C197 SLS AMG

Step 1: Verifying if your Mercedes-Benz is recalled

All Mercedes-Benz owners are advised to first enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the Mercedes-Benz microsite 'Recall Checker' to verify if their vehicle is affected by the recall.

Alternatively, owners can contact Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's Customer Care Centre at 1-800-88-1133 to confirm if their car has been identified for the recall program.

Step 2: Booking an appointment

If your car has been identified under the recall program, proceed to contact your trusted Mercedes-Benz authorized dealer, the Customer Care Centre or use the Online Booking Facility upon receiving the notification to replace the airbag.

Airbag replacements are conducted at all Mercedes-Benz authorised dealerships, at no additional cost.
