New 2023 Volvo XC60 launched in Malaysia - 2 new variants, starting from RM 320k

Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has launched the 2023 Volvo XC60 SUV in Malaysia, at the ongoing Malaysia Motor Expo 2022 – highlighting some subtle aesthetic updates, as well two new variants that replace the outgoing lineup. 

Starting with the price, the new entry variant B5 Plus mild-hybrid is now priced at RM 320,888, whilst the range-topping Recharge T8 Ultimate plug-in hybrid (PHEV) comes in at RM 355,888. The new variants cost approximately RM 2k more than the outgoing models, namely the XC60 B5 Momentum and Recharge T8 Inscription Plus respectively. 

Under the hood of the B5 Plus, is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder paired with a 48V mild-hybrid (14 PS / 40 Nm) Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) to deliver a total 263 PS and 390 Nm of torque.

The T8 Ultimate meanwhile gets a 2.0-litre four-pot that develops 317 PS and 400 Nm, which is aided by a 145 PS / 309 Nm electric rear motor, providing electric-AWD, and a nett power output of 462 PS and 709 Nm of torque. Both the B5 Plus and T8 Ultimate feature a 8-speed automatic. 

The electric motor is driven by a larger 18.8 kWh battery (updated earlier this year), up from 11.6 kWh (2020 model) that can deliver up to electric range of 81 km now, up from 45 km previously.

Design wise, the 2023 XC60 T8 gets the R-Design package that features the newer X-Wing front bumper profile, akin to the S60, and a square-mesh grille insert further up. Round the back the updated rear bumper features a sportier and more angular lower apron.

Along the flanks, both the B5 Plus and T8 Ultimate get a 19-inch wheels.

In addition to the styling updates – the XC60 is now offered with additional interior upholstery and trim packages as well as new colours on the outside. The highlight colour (offered on the T8 Ultimate only) is Fusion Red, as seen here.

In terms of infotainment, the XC60 receives a 9-inch Android Automotive OS-based infotainment unit (which was part of an earlier update). The B5 Plus gets a 600 W 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the PHEV receives the more premium 1,100 W 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup.

There are no updates to the in terms of safety features, offering Volvo’s Pilot Assist Level 2 semi-autonomous driving suite which includes front collision warning with braking and avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Monitoring (BLIS) with steering assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) with braking and a 360-degree camera.

The 2023 XC60 comes with a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty, and 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty.
