More affordable than HR-V, Chery Omoda 5 announces preliminary prices in Indonesia

At the ongoing Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2023, Chery announced pre-booking prices of the Chery Omoda 5, the companyโ€™s first global product. Only one engine option is announced across two variants which are:

  • Chery Omoda 5 Z โ€“ IDR 328 million (~RM 96k)
  • Chery Omoda 5 RZ โ€“ IDR 398 million (~RM 116k)

That's less than a base Honda HR-V which starts from IDR 375.9 million (~RM 110k) though the Omoda 5's prices are still preliminary.

The sole engine that is offered for the Indo-spec Omoda 5 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 147 PS and 230 Nm and is paired with a CVT automatic with 9 virtual gears. It is worth noting that the horsepower output mentioned in the Indonesian press release is less than in China (156 PS).

Though these are preliminary prices for the Omoda 5, the SUV isnโ€™t launched in Indonesia yet. Perhaps Malaysia could get its hands on the futuristic HR-V challenger before the archipelago with Chery expecting to make a relaunch here around the second half of 2023.
