Finally in Malaysia - All-new 2023 Toyota Voxy and Noah arrive as recond models, priced from RM 228k

Roughly 15 months since making its debut in Japan, the all-new 2023 Toyota Voxy and its sibling model, the Toyota Noah, have landed in Malaysia.

Just like the earlier models that were offered here, the all-new Voxy is a reconditioned model that’s imported (CBU) from Japan. These units were brought in by Seven S Auto (M) Sdn Bhd.

Prices start from RM 228,000 for the Toyota Noah, while the sportier looking Toyota Voxy commands a RM 30k premium, coming in at RM 258,000.

Starting in the powertrain department, the fourth-generation Voxy, codenamed R90, continues to offer a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. But this time around, the engine is from the Dynamic Force family, specifically the M20A-FKS.

It produces a healthy 200 PS of power and 202 Nm of torque, mated to a Direct Shift CVT automatic transmission. While buyers in Japan gets the choice of front-wheel drive (FWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD) configs, units brought in by recond dealers here are FWD-only.

In terms of design, the Toyota Voxy is the sportier looking model, encompassing a massive front grille that covers the entirety of the front-end, flanked by slim LED headlights. Surprise surprise, the ice cube-shaped lights nestled below are part of the main headlights; they’re not fog lights.

The Toyota Noah, on the other hand, gets a more palatable front-end. While the front grille is equally massive like the Voxy, it’s no where as in-your-face like the latter.

The Voxy gets these sporty 17-inch, dual-tone alloy wheels

The Noah gets simpler-looking, silver-finished wheels

Towards the sides, the Voxy wears 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, while the Noah gets 16-inch silver-finished wheels.

Power sliding doors are fitted to both the Voxy and Noah, and both MPVs also offer an extending side step on the left side – ideal for young kids or ageing folks to ingress and egress.

Power tailgate is available on the Voxy, and it features a pair of discreetly hidden buttons to operate the power tailgate. This feature isn’t found on the cheaper Toyota Noah. Instead, to unlock the Noah's tailgate, the button to unlock the tailgate is fitted to the trim piece above the number plate, where the Noah wording is.

Unlike the C27 Nissan Serena and its ingenious split-opening tailgate, the one on the Voxy and Noah is a single unit.

Captain seats in the Voxy

Bench-type seats in the Noah

Stepping inside, seating arrangement varies, as in its home market, the Voxy and Noah can be had as a 7- or 8-seater model and the same can be observed here. Depending on the model you pick, the second-row can be had either as a bench seat (2-3-3 config) or with two captain seats (2-2-3 config).

Perhaps one shortcoming of Japanese reconditioned models in the past is the Japanese language in the multi-info display (MID) and infotainment system, but this is no longer an issue on newer generation Japanese market Toyota models.

On newer TNGA-based models, like this Voxy and Noah, owners can set the MID and infotainment’s language to English. Take note, however, that the radio frequency tops out at 95 Mhz.

Remember to source for the recond vehicle's auction sheet using the VIN

As with the case with any recond car purchase, keep in mind that it is still a used car. Onus is on the buyer to watch out for tampered mileage, accident or flood-damaged units that are no longer road-worthy in Japan. If in doubt, you should do your homework by purchasing the auction sheet for the particular unit you're interested in.

For those who needs the wheelchair-friendly Welcab variant of the Voxy and Noah should wait a little longer. Like the previous generation model, we believe recond dealers would eventually bring the Welcab versions into Malaysia in the near future.
