Cheapest brand-new EV in Malaysia: Neta V debuts at RM 99k, first 100 buyers get RM 10k cash voucher

After much teasing, bookings are now opened for the Neta V. Prices start from RM 99,800 (on-the-road, without insurance), making the Neta V the cheapest electric vehicle (EV) in Malaysia at the time of writing. The first 100 customers who book online are also entitled to a RM 10k cash voucher, which brings the final price down to RM 89,800.

At the 2023 Malaysia Autoshow, Neta’s Malaysian distributor, Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd opened bookings for the new EV. The Neta V is imported (CBU) from China. Deliveries are expected to start in Q3 2023.

Available in a sole variant, the price of the Neta V for Malaysia is on par with B-segment sedans, like the Toyota Vios (RM 90k to RM 95k).

Power for the Malaysian-spec Neta V comes from a single electric motor that does 95 PS and 150 Nm, juiced by a 38.5 kWh battery pack. It can return a range of up to 384 km under the NEDC test cycle. It remains to be seen how soon will Malaysia receive the updated Neta V with LFP battery.

DC fast charging is done via a CCS2 port, accepting up to 100 kW, charging the battery from 30-percent to 80-percent state-of-charge (SoC) in just 30 minutes. AC charging goes up to 6.6 kW.

According to Hozon, the Neta V can sprint from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the century sprint is completed in a leisurely 14.17 seconds. Top speed is rated at 124 km/h.

Yes, the Neta V’s top speed is just marginally higher than our national highway speeds, considerably lower than rivals like the BYD Atto 3 (160 km/h) and Hyundai Kona Electric (155 km/h).

Standard equipment of the Neta V include automatic halogen projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, synthetic leather upholstery, 14.6-inch portrait-style infotainment display, 12-inch digital instrument cluster, and 6 speakers.

It’s a decent list of equipment, but take note that the Neta V’s steering column is fixed – there’s no tilt or telescopic steering adjustment here.

Safety kit for the Neta V is rather basic, encompassing stuff like two airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, auto vehicle hold, ABS, EBD, and stability control. Similar to other xEVs in its segment, the Neta V forgoes the spare tyre and is fitted with a tyre repair kit instead.

Five colours are available, namely Cyan, Midnight Grey, White Storm, Sky Blue, and Sakura Pink.
