One month after CKD production started, Chery Malaysia shifts into higher gear to accelerate deliveries

Chery Malaysia started production of its Proton X90-rivalling Chery Tiggo 8 Pro and Proton X50-rivalling Chery Omoda 5 at the Inokom plant in Kulim earlier last month. Response to the two Chinese SUVs have been surprisingly strong and now, just in its second month of operation, Chery Malaysia says it is ready to ramp up production.

“Chery is indeed accelerating the pace of progress in every aspect, striving to meet the demands of the Malaysian market and its users,” said Chery Malaysia KD Plant Director, Xu Jing Zhong.

“Chery has been accelerating progress in various aspects in Malaysia, from production line standards to dealer process standardization, from spare parts inventory to the establishment of after-sales service centers, ensuring both product quality and service excellence,” said Leo Chen, Executive Vice President of Chery Malaysia.

The company also reiterated its commitment to quality, even as production figures are set to rise.

“Unlike a single inspection, Chery Malaysia has implemented multiple rounds of PDI (pre-delivery inspection) checks. Each of these rounds is meticulously conducted on every aspect of the vehicle, from mechanical components to safety features, and even aesthetic details. It's a testament to our unwavering dedication to delivering vehicles that our customers can trust and rely on,” said the company.

The Chery Omoda 5 is available in two variants – the C is priced at RM 108,800 while the H is priced at RM 118,800. Both variants are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 156 PS / 230 Nm, paired to a CVT-type automatic driving the front wheels.

The 7-seater Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is priced at RM 159,800. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 256 PS / 390 Nm, paired to a 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) driving the front wheels.

Both models are covered by a 7-year warranty. There’s also a 5-year free alternate service (labour only, parts not included). Extending the warranty to 10 years / 1 million km is available for an extar RM 2,000.
