The Proton X70 is a fantastic car in most regards, and one might easily think its Geely Boyue donor car would be a runaway success in China. Not quite - the 2021 Haval H6 easily tips that balance.
The Chinese love it: Haval shifted 52,734 units of the H6 in October 2020. Geely meanwhile sold 46,040 SUVs across their entire range in the same period.
Seen at the currently-ongoing 2020 Guangzhou Autoshow, it's cuts a handsome figure. It's definitely shoutier than the Boyue/X70, thanks in part to its front fascia that features a large, imposing grille as its centrepiece.
Guaranteed to make lane-hoggers move out of the way quicky.
The good looks continue behind, with an LED lightbar and chrome boot trim.
Inside, there's a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a fully-digital instrument cluster. There's a total of four different two-tone colour combinations for the interior.
The uncluttered interior already looks great, but the rotary-dial gear selector adds a touch more class to the cabin.
A 1.5-litre, turbocharged inline-four engine drives the H6. Power and torque are rated at 168 PS/285 Nm respectively, sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT).
In Malaysia, Haval isn't doing very well, with only three models offered (H1, H2 and H9). What do you think - can the H6 turn Haval's fortunes if it's offered here?
