In 2019, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia introduced the facelifted C253 GLC Coupé in the sole GLC 300 Coupé AMG Line trim. Based on the same platform that underpins the Mercedes-Benz GLC, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé is essentially the SUV equivalent to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé, with two extra rear doors. Locally assembled in Malaysia, the facelifted model features revised exterior and updated interior equipment. Prices starts from RM 403,536 (OTR without insurance and 0 % sales tax) and rivals the likes of BMW X4, Audi Q5 Sportback and the Range Rover Evoque.
In June 2022, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia introduced a PHEV into this line of cars. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e 4MATIC Coupe is similarly put together in Pekan, and following the end of SST exemptions, is priced at RM398,888, while the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Coupe AMG Line is now priced at RM426,888.
The facelifted model brings along a revised front fascia, now sporting a more angular trapezoidal headlamps design and a more upright, single-louvred Mercedes-Benzâs diamond grille. AMG Line exterior package also brings along a wing-shaped front bumper with larger faux air intakes, aggressively styled front apron, and a diffuser-like element at the rear, flanked by a pair of chrome plated exhaust exits.
The standard Night Package introduces high-gloss black finishes on various external elements including the side mirrors housing, AMG side sills panel, beltline trim strip and window weather strip, front and rear apron, and the front radiator grille. Also standard on the AMG Line are the 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels and the aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs.
The dramatically slopping roofline with fastback profile accentuates its sleek coupé-like silhouette, tastefully executed with subtle curved and smooth body lines next to the more ostentatious BMW X4. Pronounced shoulder haunches further exemplifies its athletic stance. At the rear, the broad two-piece LED lamps features Mercedes-Benz GLE-inspired three-dimensional polygonal signatures.
As for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e 4MATIC Coupe, it also receives AMG Line goodies, along with a Night Package, and larger front disc brakes to bring the heavier and more powerful SUV to heel. Just like its non-hybrid sibling, it sits on 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoked alloys. Except for the badge at the rear, not much differentiates these two siblings.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé is positioned between the larger Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé and the smaller Mercedes-Benz GLA. Based on the Mercedes-Benz MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform that also underpins the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the standard Mercedes-Benz GLC, the Coupé variant shares an identical wheelbase and width with its non-identical SUV twin but measures 76 mm longer and 37 mm lower. Tipping the scale at 1,785 kg, it is also 50 kg heavier than the standard model.
As for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e 4MATIC Coupe, its dimensions are the same as its only-petrol-powered sibling, but it weighs in at a heavier 1,940 kg.

Like the standard Mercedes-Benz GLC, the coupé variant makes do with a separate 12.3-inch digital drivers display as opposed to the new-generation free standing dual widescreen display seen on more updated models like the Mercedes-Benz GLE.
Despite the slopping roofline, interior occupant space especially at the rear is not as cramped as one might expect. But the narrow window opening and the shallow rear windscreen limits natural lighting into the cabin, which can feel a tad dark and claustrophobic. With the rear seats in place, the 500-litre boot space is only 50 litres shy of the space in the standard SUV thanks to the longer body.
Unlike the exterior, subtle differences set the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e 4MATIC Coupe aside from its sibling. It has the same AMG Line interior, but features open-pore black ash wood instead of a black piano finish for an 'eco', but still highly classy interior.
The new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system can be accessed via the 10.25-inch touchscreen display or the touchpad on the centre console. Also available are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, Mercedes Me connected services, which is accessible via the onboard LTE communications module, and a premium Burmester surround sound system.
Standard Safety and Assistance Package brings along 360-degree camera, Blind Spot Assist, Parktronic Parking Assist, Active Lane Keep Assist, Active Brake Assist, Cruise Control, Pre-Safe System, Adaptive Brake Light, knee bag, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
The same petrol engine with the same specs are found in the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e 4MATIC Coupe, with the inclusion of a electric motor positioned between the 9G-Tronic transmission and engine that is good for 122 PS and 400 Nm. Thus, the entire system yield is 320 PS and a whopping 700 Nm of torque, resulting in a 5.7-second century sprint and a top speed of 230 km/h. Drive is sent to all four wheels too via the 4MATIC system.
Powering the electric drivetrain is a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that gives the car a range of 43 km on the WLTP cycle, and it is capable of going up to 130 km/h in pure electric mode. Furthermore, thanks to an onboard charger that accepts up to 7.4 kW of power, the battery can be fully recharged in just 1.5 hours.
As for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e 4MATIC Coupe, since it is a heavier car, the ride comfort is ever so slightly improved.
