A locally-assembled (CKD) 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Coupe 4Matic is on the cards, but it will be a while yet before it breaks into the market, revealed Christian Grimberg, the General Manager of Pricing & Product Management for the company's Malaysian operations.

"There are definitely plans to bring in the [CKD] GLC Coupe, as you know we had one with the predecessor as well (referring to the C253-generation model), but this will not come this year anymore," he explained.

"It will take the usual lead time between a CBU (fully imported) availability and a CKD availability, so we will see a locally-assembled GLC Coupe sometime next year," said Grimberg at the model's launch event earlier this morning.

'Lead time' in this context refers to the time needed to ready the plant for local production of the model, and a safe bet is usually around 6 months. The W206 C-Class was one such case; CBU variants were introduced here in February last year, before the CKD cars emerged in August 2022.

For now though, customers can revel in the fully-imported (CBU Germany) GLC 300 Coupe, priced from RM 469,888.
