Returning to KL or PJ? Download this app before you travel

As we approach the final days of the Movement Control Order period, the Defence Ministry has announced that, starting from 25th April 2020, Malaysians wishing to travel back to any major cities will be required to fill up a form via the Gerak Malaysia app before travelling.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that he understands many Malaysians had returned to their hometowns before the order was implemented. And as the order is fast approaching an end many of these families will need to travel back to major cities like Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya for work.

"For the early stages, they can apply to the police through the online application Gerak Malaysia, a collaboration between the police and Communications and Multimedia Ministry, from April 25 onwards.”

All you need to do is provide name, the number of family members, the location you are setting out from and your destination. But if you can’t make your applications online, you can head to any police station to apply.

"It does not need to be a district police station any small police station would do for them to apply and give personal details. To avoid overcrowding at the police station, call the police station and make an appointment so that they are able to plan," said Ismail Sabri.

However, Ismail Sabri stated that they will be studying the situation, warning that any travelling will only be allowed starting from May 1st.

"Even if people are able to return, I believe this will happen after May 1. We are still in the study phase and there is no guarantee because we are still waiting for reports. When applications to the police stations start on April 25, we will be able to see how many people want to return home and then we can plan and initiate a standard operating procedure (SOP)," he said.
