In an interview with a German newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Bosch CEO Volkmar Denner said that the supply shortage of semiconductors could extend until 2022.
"There are difficult months ahead of us, and the situation could remain tense until 2022," said Denner as reported by Automotive News Europe. The report highlights that this marks another sector heavyweight to warn of a prolonged shortage of chips.
On the Automotive News Europe list of the top 100 global suppliers, Bosch ranked no.1 with worldwide parts sales to automakers amounting to $46.56 billion in 2019.
The ongoing chip shortage affects almost every carmaker globally, including Malaysia’s own Proton and Perodua. The shortage causes a cascading effect in which car manufacturers are forced to scale down production and ultimately delaying deliveries to consumers.
