Own a Honda N-Box? Honda looking to trace 3,431 fuel pump assemblies for the model as some fitted to cars, others as spare parts

Honda Japan has issued a recall for a number of models that could have possibly been sold as reconditioned models and exported. The reason for the recall is a defective fuel pump. Specifically, the recall is for the component itself that was also sold as spare parts, further complicating efforts to trace it.

In total, the 3,431 units of the defective fuel pump was sold or fitted to cars, with the Honda N-Box accounting for the majority of it but not limited to that model.

The component in question is the low-pressure fuel pump and the cause for its failure is the impeller (resin blade wheel) of the pump for replacement and repair parts. Improper moulding conditions may have led to reduced resin density that could cause the impeller to swell and deform due to fuel absorption.

Consequently, the impeller may come into contact with the pump cover, resulting in fuel pump malfunction, and in a worst-case scenario, potentially stalling the car while driving.

Once identified, Honda will proceed to rectify the issue by using improved components for the low-pressure fuel pump.

The replacement and repair parts will be shipped to users who have these parts assembled on their cars. A tracking survey will be conducted to identify these users and inform them of the necessary modifications required.

However, seeing that most of the models are recond units, Honda Malaysia will not be responsible in providing support as the car wasn't sold by them. Furthermore, Honda Japan's legal liabilities don't include cover as well, given that the car has been shipped out of the country where it was developed for use in.

You can view the entire table of models by clicking here but you'll probably need Google Translate as well.
