Japanese man auctions off 1989 Toyota Supra A70 to pay for his cat’s medical bills

Pet lovers and car lovers have something in common: there’s nothing we wouldn’t do for our beloved 4-wheeled rides and our fur babies. But what if we have to choose between the 2? Well, we can only pray that we never meet with the situation that this Japanese Toyota Supra lover had to make.

A Japanese man, identified as Leiz on Yahoo Auctions, found himself in serious need of funds when his cat contracted a potentially fatal disease known as Feline Infectious Peritonitis.

He explained that medical bills for his furry friend could go up to JPY 2 million (more than RM 76,000). As he is in a hurry to give his cat, Silk, the medical attention it needed, Leiz had no choice but to sell his Toyota Supra A70 that has been in his possession for 27 years.

Due to the circumstances and the sentimental value he has on the Supra, it is understandable that Leiz has pegged an asking price of at least double the usual asking price for an A70 Supra, at JPY 2,7 m (about RM 103,000).

The Supra Leiz is selling is a 1989 Toyota Supra A70 originally sold in the North American market. According to Leiz, the car was imported to Japan by his friend before he took over ownership not long after.

Leiz’s story has touched the hearts of many including a fellow car lover who also fosters a love for pets. The buyer not only purchased the Supra without negotiations, he even threw in an extra JPY 100,000 (RM 3,800) to help with Silk’s medical bill.

But that’s not the best part yet, SoraNews24 quoted the buyer stating that he has plans to clear a space for the Supra and store it as a decoration without much plans to use it. He also invited Leiz to come by to take the car out for a spin whenever he misses it.

In future, if Leiz finds himself in better circumstances, the buyer is more than willing to sell the Supra back to Leiz for the exact same price.

We can only hope Leiz would one day be able to purchase his Supra back!
