Your next trip to Thailand could see you hopping on a unique transport and it's not the scattered tuk-tuks – it may very well be the battery-electric Toyota Hilux BEV that will ferry you and yours around the Land of Smiles.
Toyota Motor Thailand will be assembling a demonstration fleet of the Hilux BEV to be used as share taxis for use within the country, as further real-world tests commence. However when exactly this will happen hasn't been disclosed just yet.

'Share taxis' are slightly different from conventional taxis or ride-sharing vehicles. They usually only get moving when it's full, ferrying passengers on a linear or sometimes non-fixed routes.
This new development comes after the city-focused Hilux BEV concept was lent to Toyota Australia recently, in which its local engineers and industry partners were given an opportunity to evaluate the prototype.
Powered by Toyota's EV-related technologies, the Hilux BEV was first unveiled by Chairman Akio Toyoda himself in Thailand late last year, alongside the modular Toyota IMV0 small pick-up truck concept.
The Hilux BEV Concept is just another sample of Toyota's multi-pathway solution to carbon neutral motoring, and represents one segment of the available powertrain options. Earlier this year, Toyota showcased the hydrogen-fuel cell Hilux (FCEV) in the UK, and a mild-hybrid Hilux (MHEV) in Kenya – the latter slated for production beginning 2024.
