For sale: Forget Tesla or Rimac, this 1 of 9 Mercedes SLS AMG EV is the rarest of them all

In 2010, Mercedes-Benz gave the world the SLS AMG, the first AMG model to be developed and built in-house by the marque's high performance division. While many remember this model for its blood-and-thunder 6.2-litre, naturally aspirated V8 engine, many didn't know that the SLS AMG also came in electric flavour.

Yes, what you're seeing here is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive, and it's for sale at RM Sotheby's, with only 3,800 km on the odometer. How much you ask? Well, a cool RM 5.25 million (it was RM 2.1 million when new) - before tax. What does that money actually buy you? Well, this unit is thought to be only 1 of 9, in the entire world.

Propelling this iconic gullwing supercar is four (yes, FOUR) electric motors in each wheel, combining for a total output of 750 PS and 1000 Nm. A 60 kWh battery provides a driving range of up to 250 km. 0-100 km/h is dusted in 3.9 seconds, well within traditional supercar territory.

Geek factoid: AMG's High Performance Powertrains division was involved in designing this powertrain. You know, the division that runs Mercedes' utterly dominant Formula One operations. In case you needed reminding that this EV SLS AMG was a bit special. Having the Green Electric paint finish helps too, if that floats your EV boat.

When the EV SLS AMG was unveiled to the world in 2012, Mercedes said that it would only build less than a hundred of these. Turns out it was a lot less than that. Talk about something rare!
