No turbos here - all-new Mitsubishi Airtrek to debut this week as an EV SUV

You probably remember the original Mitsubishi Airtrek, most probably by its defining variant, the 4G63T-powered Turbo. Well, the name's back, this time sans Evo mill and all-wheel drive - the Airtrek is now an electric vehicle (EV).

Unlike last time, this upcoming Airtrek will be a China-exclusive model, manufactured by the Chinese joint venture GAC Mitsubishi Motors.

Both companies have been partners since 2012, producing models like the Mitsubishi ASX and Outlander, as well as the GAC Eupheme EV line-up.

The Aion V - notice the similarities?

Which explains this Airtrek's situation - it's actually a reskin of the GAC Aion V that made its debut last year.

And yes, if GAC sounds familiar, it's because they're the same company behind the Trumpchi GS3 spied numerous times here.

Underneath the new 'Dynamic Shield' fascia and other aesthetic changes, the Airtrek is expected to share the same 135 kW, 350 Nm electric motor with the Aion V too.

Depending on variant, the the donor Aion V offers 400 to 600 km of NEDC range, something the Airtrek should mirror as well.

As far as size goes, this is how the Aion V measures. The Airtrek should be thereabouts as well:

GAC Aion V dimensions
Measurement Units
Length (mm) 4,586
Width (mm) 1,920
Height (mm) 1,728
Wheelbase (mm) 2,830

According to sources, the Mitsubishi Airtrek EV SUV will make its debut at the Chongqing Motor Show, which starts on 12-June, 2021.
