Bad news for the motor show lovers, as the Federal Council of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) has decided to cancel the 2021 stage as well.
The decision is made following the Committee and the Foundation Board held a survey with the GIMS exhibitors. A majority of their exhibitors have stated that they would probably not be participating in the 2021 edition should there be one held.
The automotive sector is currently going through a difficult phase as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. As so, they would need time to recover from the effects and would forgo participating in the 2021 GIMS should there be one.
Also, the decision to cancel the 2021 edition was made as the committee is still uncertain that the current health situation would permit the organisation of an event that attracts over 600,000 visitors and 10,000 journalists even by next spring.
As of now, the GIMS is confirmed to return in 2022. But tough times are ahead for the Foundation, so let's keep our fingers crossed that all will go to plan.
