The 1951 Nash Rambler: A car you should know during the Malaysia Day

The 1951 Nash Rambler is on display at Publika  (Ends Sept 16), in KL.

If you are in KL, then you should seize the last chance to the Hari Malaysia and Publika Art Show to see rare national artefacts!

The Hari Malaysia exhibition is a collaboration between Publika and the National Archives of Malaysia. Among all, the 1951 Nash Rambler is particularly eye-catching.

The car exhibited was used by Tunku Abdul Rahman to announce the country’s independence in Melaka on Feb 20, 1956.

The story behind the 1951 Nash Rambler

This is a 1951 Nash Rambler convertible bearing the number plate M4442.

The car was found in Ohio, United States and bought from a sum of RM 171,000. Besides being the very car Tunku rode in Melaka, the car had been used in The Adventures of Superman TV series.

Fun Fact

The original car bearing the number plate M4442 which Tunku rode on could not be traced after a check with the Road Transport Department.

It belonged to a Malaccan who volunteered to drive Tunku and the other VIPs to the Padang Pahlawan in Bandar Hilir to announce the date of Merdeka (watch the video below).

(Diorama of YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj arriving at the Malacca Club to deliver his speech on 9 February 1956, announcing to the nation that the Independence Agreement had been signed and that Malaya would become an independent country the following year, on 31 August 1957)

According to the Malaysia Travel Monitor, there were two cars of the same model, one was in Australia and the other in Ohio.

Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr

Review: BYD Dolphin in Malaysia - A solid choice for EV beginners, except for one thing

You might be aware that Malaysia prohibits the import of electric vehicles (EVs) priced below RM 100,000, and this is indeed accurate. The rationale behind this policy, driven by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), is actually sound when you consider their goal of attracting investments in the EV sector. In the world of technology, most of the valuable stuff is in the higher-end product range. Cheaper electric cars have minimal technological sophistication; they're kind of li
