First look at Geely's Radar RD6 EV pick-up interior - Familiar and fuss-free!

The third electric vehicle-focused (EV) brand under the Geely umbrella following Geometry and Zeekr, Radar made its debut in China last month with its first model, the Radar RD6 electric pick-up truck.

Though only the exterior was revealed during its launch along with the pick-up’s rear bed, this time, Geely has unveiled some interior shots of the maiden Radar model. From the looks of things, the interior has a mix of modern and utilitarian, like most modern pick-up trucks in the 2020s.

Rivian R1T interior shown

It has a large infotainment screen in the centre but bears what appears to be instrument gauges for the driver. As opposed to the R1T’s minimalist design, the RD6 also features traditional knobs and buttons on the dash and centre console.

The centre console houses a knob to adjust the three drive modes – Eco, Comfort, and Sport – as well as the traction control button and hill descent control. Too bad the latter uses a silhouette of what appears to be the Geely Haoyue/Okavango/Proton X90 instead of the truck.

Continuity error aside, there is a large gear shifter in the middle, showing that the Radar RD6 is likely going to be an uncomplicated pick-up to be in despite the electric powertrains.

Geely has yet to reveal specifications of the electric pick-up but preliminary specs show that it has a range of 600 km (unspecified Chinese test cycle) and a 0-100 km/h time of 6 seconds. Are the figures coincidentally tied to the RD6's numerical nameplate?

The Radar RD6 is scheduled for launch in China on 9-September 2022 but pick-up trucks are a very niche segment that is mostly seen as agricultural. The RD6 plans to target urban Chinese buyers who want to enjoy the great outdoors as COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed.

The Radar RD6 isn't just made for adventurous Chinese buyers though as it is reported that the electric pick-up truck is planned for overseas markets including Southeast Asia and the United States. It makes sense since these markets are more acceptable to pick-ups than China which only contributes 2 percent of total automotive sales in 2021.
