Can't wait for the launch in Malaysia? Here are 25 photos of the Ora Good Cat to soothe the wait!

Now that the Malaysian motoring market is finally turning its attention to electric cars, more and more manufacturers are announcing plans for which electric vehicle (EV) they will be launching here. One of the EVs that has already been previewed in Malaysia is the Ora Good Cat. Feast your eyes on 25 photos of the electrified cat!

Ora is an EV-focused brand under Great Wall Motor (GWM), the brand is also said to be focused on women hence the more feminine and ‘cute’ image.

The Ora Good Cat is the brand’s most popular EV to date. It was first previewed at the Chengdu Auto Show in mid-2020 and it caught the attention of many as the EV’s silhouette is very similar to a Porsche.

Some claim that it is no surprise since GWM did welcome former Porsche designer Emanuel Derta into their midst. Derta was the designer who penned the lines of the Good Cat, hence the resemblance.

On the inside, instead of the standard black, the Good Cat also comes offered in a dual-tone finish. The unit that was previewed here in Malaysia features a blue and white finish.

However, we believe the colour is market-dependent so it remains to be seen how many colour combinations GWM will offer in Malaysia.

Though GWM only just previewed the Good Cat in Malaysia, the car is already on sale in Thailand. Buyers in the Kingdom have a choice of a 400 km range Good Cat or a 500 km range.

The shorter-range Good Cat comes in two variants, 400 Tech and 400 Pro, and features a 47.8 kWh battery. Meanwhile, the 500 km Good Cat features a larger 63.1 kWh battery. The EV supports DC fast charging of up to 60 kW and AC charging of up to 6.6 kW.

All three variants are powered by front-mounted motors that produce 145 PS and 210 Nm. Ora claims that the Good Cat can make the century sprint in 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of 152 km/h.

Other than these 3 variants, Ora also recently launched the Ora Good Cat GT in the land of smiles. The GT is a step away from cute and comes only in one colour known as Aqua Grey. The colour is accented by red touches on the front and rear bumpers as well as the brake callipers.

The interior also matches the sporty theme with red accents sprinkled across the steering wheel, dashboard, and seats.

The GT also gets a power bump to match its sporty looks. The Good Cat GT’s motors produce 173 PS and 250 Nm, that’s 28 PS and 40 Nm more than the standard Good Cat.

Though it has a more power motor, top speed is maintained at 152 km/h while the 0-100 km sprint can be done in 8.2 seconds, 0.7 seconds faster than the standard version.

The Good Cat has so far dominated EV sales in Thailand with Ora selling 1,355 units in the first half of 2022. That’s a 43.8 percent market share. Ora sold a total of 453 units in just June alone, sealing itself as the market leader by miles.

In Thailand, the standard Ora Good Cat is priced starting from THB 763,000 (~RM 94,000) and tops off at THB 959,000 (~RM 118,000) while the Good Cat GT goes for THB 1,286,000 (~RM 159,000). When the Good Cat comes to Malaysia, expect prices to go reach circa RM 140,000.

Closer to home, GWM has gone mostly silent after it previewed the Good Cat back in July, however, we believe that GWM will want to launch the Good Cat before the end of 2023 as to capitalise on the EV tax incentives that will end next year.

Yes, we know that the Finance Ministry has announced its intent to extend the tax incentives to December 2024, however, we currently don’t have a government to approve the extension. So, watch this space for more updates.
