The Lexus CT was Lexus’ first and only hatchback model and was the entry-level model for Toyota’s luxury arm. It was introduced in 2011 and sold for 11 years until 2022 when production stopped with no replacement.
While the oval L brand is focusing more on electrified SUVs, there are rumours from Japan that the CT could be revived in 2024. According to Best Car Web, this all-new CT would be based on the sleek all-new Prius just like its predecessor.
Besides the TNGA platform, the Japanese automotive publication also reported that the revived CT could be offered with three powertrains – a petrol-electric hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and fully-electric (EV).
This is in line with Lexus’ electrification plan and the CT that was introduced more than a decade ago was only offered with a hybrid powertrain. Still, the hybrid version would be the main contributor to sales for this next-gen CT.
The hybrid powerplant is rumoured to be the same 2.0-litre unit that is currently offered on the all-new Prius. The 2.0-litre Dynamic Force hybrid powertrain makes a maximum combined output of 199 PS but Best Car Web thinks the output could be reduced to 193 PS instead.
If this rumour is true, the all-new CT will make a return as Lexus’ entry model and will slot below the Lexus UX. The previous-generation CT was sold in Malaysia and makes an intriguing introduction to Lexus and hybrids in the used car market.
