Mod My Car: Shopping for a niche 15-year old car - My Subaru Impreza WRX STI
98
Subaru is one of those underrated brands that not many Malaysians would consider getting unless they are passionate about AWD or the legacy of the WRX. As we reported before, Subaru isn’t giving up on the WRX name with plans to launch the successor in 2021.
Well, it seems that timeline is getting underway with images of a fully camouflaged WRX spotted in Japan. The model captured appeared to be the WRX S4 which is the CVT version of Subaru’s hot sedan.
Fans of the manual need not vape in anger as the 6-speed manual will be retained for the next-gen WRX.
Based on what we can see in the pictures, the all-new WRX could be sharing the same slim headlight design as the Levorg which was launched back in August. Also at the front, the all-new WRX could also be sporting a honeycomb front grille.
Around the side, things look a little more sedated than wild which further solidifies that this model could be the S4 and not the STi. Compared with the current-gen, the 2021 WRX does look sleeker especially at the rear with the rear door looking sharper.
At the back, we see the design of the taillights which resemble both the Forester and Levorg. This means that the next-gen WRX will share the same “stapler taillight” design language.
Besides that, the next-gen WRX would also have a shark fin antenna and quad tailpipes like the current-gen. Also of note is the rear wiper which is retained at least for the JDM edition of the WRX.
Based on previous reports, we speculate that the next-gen WRX could be powered by a turbocharged 2.4-litre FA24 boxer engine which could generate up to 300 PS.
