Announced last year, Volkswagen collaborated with Ford to develop commercial vehicles, which includes vans and pick-up trucks for the global market. Hence the next generation Volkswagen Amarok and Ford Ranger will share the same platform.
The design sketch teases a rather butch design with flared wheel arches, jacked up suspension and large wheels. It’s as if the Amarok received the “Raptor” treatment.
Though sketches are usually quite expressive in its design, expect the actual outcome to be mellowed down.
What’s interesting here is the X design on the front grille that bears a resemblance to Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design on the Mitsubishi Triton.
No details have been divulged on how much sharing is involved between the Amarok and Ranger. It could be a similar case to the Mercedes-Benz X-Class and Nissan Navara, or a case of Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ where one offers the powertrain and the other provides a platform.
But what has been stated is that Ford will engineer, source and build the medium pick-up for both companies for customers in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and South America.
