SA takes new Proton X50 on joyride, ends up in ditch

It is well known that there is a long waiting period for the Proton X50, last we checked it was 9 months! But imagine this, you’ve waited months for your new exciting new car to arrive and right on the day that it was supposed to sit under your porch you receive a phone call saying that the car has been totally wrecked on the way to you…

This was what the owner of a particular X50 in Johor had to go through as the Sales Advisor (SA) appointed to deliver the car had taken it for a joy ride instead.

According to a viral Facebook post, the story goes like this: it all started 4 months ago when resigned Proton SA, Puteri Sajeda Hussein, closed a deal with her customer on a red Proton X50. After 4 months of waiting, it was finally her customer’s turn to receive delivery of the car.

But during that period, Puteri had formally resigned from the Proton showroom in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Although she no longer works for the showroom, she still took on the responsibility of delivering the car personally to her customer.

As she doesn’t work for the showroom anymore, the manager had required that an active SA should be present to formally make the delivery to the customer instead. So, Puteri had to make plans with the appointed SA, Azmi Irawan, on the delivery of the car from Ampang to Johor Bahru.

According to her post, the original plan was to convoy to the agreed drop-off location, Puteri will be driving Azmi’s car there while Azmi will drive the customer’s X50. From what we understand, the plans were made on 1 March 2021 and the delivery date was set on 6 March 2021.

Unfortunately, Azmi did not stick to the agreed plans. When Puteri contacted Azmi at the agreed time, he told her that he had already left Ampang and was on the way to JB. He also promised to meet her at the agreed drop-off location since he was ahead.

When Puteri sent him the drop-off location address at 5.30 pm, Azmi told her that he had already arrived in Melaka.

This is where things started getting sticky, Puteri arrived in JB at 8 pm, but Azmi, who claimed to have left earlier than her, was nowhere to be seen. When contacted, Azmi told her that he was still in Segamat at that time, which is about 2 hours away from the drop-off location.

After 40 unanswered calls and plenty of text messages later, the owner of the Proton X50 finally received news that the new car, which the customer have yet to even set eyes on, was involved in a massive accident and declared a total loss on the spot in Segamat.

At that time, Azmi had already made a police report regarding the accident. Puteri was shocked to learn from the police report that the new X50 was driven at 180 km/h when the accident happened.

Puteri was outraged about the incident as Azmi had continued to twist his story to defend himself. She noted in her Facebook post that nobody will know what really happened before the car got involved in the accident that caused it to roll into a ditch.

At the time of writing, her Facebook post has garnered 2.1k reactions, 3k shares, and 1.2k comments. Many are also curious who is responsible for this situation and how the insurance claims process should be.

Investigations are still ongoing, but one thing is for sure, the Proton X50 lives up to its 5-star ASEAN NCAP ratings no?

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
