The Proton Ertiga is no more as Proton has dropped the model from its line-up. The last Proton Ertiga rolled off Proton’s Tanjung Malim plant in May, with saw only 31 units assembled, including 4 units with manual transmission. These 31 units languished for a few more months at dealers, but the last unit should have been sold by the time you read this. What’s the resale value of a Proton X70? Flux has an alternative

The Proton X70 was first launched in December 2018, as a fully imported (CBU) model from China. Slightly more than one year later, the locally-assembled (CKD) model was launched in February 2020, with a new transmission but hardly any change in price. The range topping Premium X model is priced at RM 122,800. Barely two years on the market, it’s still too early to gauge the resale value of a Proton X70. Yes there are quite a number of units listed on used car classifieds, but it’s still too smal

Is it true that the Proton Saga is cheaper to maintain than a Perodua Bezza? The answer is not that simple.

Both the Perodua Bezza and Proton Saga are Malaysia’s cheapest sedans, but which one is cheaper to maintain? If you were to make a simple comparison based Proton's quoted prices for its maintenance plan, the Saga's total maintenance cost over a 5-year/100,000 km period is cheaper than the Bezza by about RM 140. The Perodua Bezza will cost RM 3,149 to maintain while the Proton Saga costs a slightly cheaper RM 3,008. That's a neglibible difference over a five-year/100,000 km period. However, keep

Nissan Kicks ‘kicks’ Proton X50 in ASEAN NCAP rating

Recently, we showed the safest cars as tested by ASEAN NCAP. Despite having some of the smartest driving aids in its class, the Proton X50 didn’t make it to the Top 10. Neither did the Nissan Kicks but here’s the kicker (no pun intended), it scored better than the X50! The Nissan Kicks scored the maximum 5-stars just like the X50 but its overall score was much higher than the X50 despite having 2 airbags as standard with 86.93 points. For comparison, the Malaysian crossover only got 84.26 points

The Hyundai Kona will gatecrash the Proton X50’s October’s launch

Although Proton has yet to confirm when the Proton X50 will be launched, we are pretty certain it will be within the month of October. Some sources have even provided us with a very specific date – October 15. The October timeline is easy to understand because Proton desperately needs the X50 to close the gap in its annual sales target (MCO not helping). As of June 2020, Proton’s cumulative sales stood at 37,078 units versus Perodua’s 74,170 units. Once past October, Proton will have less than 2

Spied: Proton X50 seen in Thailand - exports before fulfilling Malaysian backlogs?

After making waves in Malaysia and entering Brunei shortly after its launch here, the Proton X50 is making Thailand its next stop. Spotted in Songkhla recently, it seems that this is the Flagship variant - note the black spoiler (hinting at the variant-specific dual-tone colourway) and two-tone wheels. This corroborates with our earlier report that at least the base Standard and the range-topping Flagship variants are very likely to make their way there. To recap, the Malaysian-specs X50 comes w

2020 Proton X50 gets 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating but X70 still safer

The results are in! Well it’s not the prices that are finally announced but the Proton X50 has scored a 5-star rating for ASEAN NCAP. However, its overall score is lower than its larger sibling, the X70. The X50 is Proton’s seventh model that underwent the ASEAN NCAP assessment. While the model tested is a Standard variant which is the lowest-spec model on offer with 4 airbags, it is the norm for crash test labs to use the base model in their tests. The X50’s occupant compartment remained intact
