Bookings opened for 2021 Suzuki Swift Sport: CBU Japan, from RM 145k, no mild hybrid

Prior to the model’s debut in Malaysia, bookings for the upcoming 2021 Suzuki Swift Sport are now opened.

According to a Facebook post by Aravin Naza Sales, the upcoming hot hatch from Suzuki will be tentatively priced at RM 145,000. He added that there’s a 2-month waiting period for the model.

Just like the earlier ZC31S-generation and ZC32S-generation Swift Sport models, the ZC33S-generation Swift Sport is manufactured at Suzuki’s Sagara plant in Japan. 

In terms of powertrain, the Swift Sport is only offered with one powertrain globally - a turbocharged 1.4-litre K14C four-cylinder petrol engine that does 140 PS and 230 Nm. Hardly ground-breaking figures, but considering that the Swift Sport weighs less than 1-tonne, it has superior power-to-weight ratio.

The mild hybrid option that’s currently available in Europe isn’t offered here, as Malaysia lacks the necessary incentives for low CO2 engines. It’s the same reason why the City (and forthcoming City Hatchback) will make do without the turbocharged engine found on the Thai-spec cars.

As reported by my colleague Shaun, Malaysia-bound Swift Sport units will most likely be an automatic-only affair; those who wants a six-speed manual will have to resort to reconditioned units.

More details will be revealed upon the model's launch later this week.

The Suzuki marque will be represented by Naza Eastern Motors – a new company formed by Naza to handle the sales and after-sales of new-generation Suzuki models in Malaysia.
