PT Garuda Mataram Motor (GMM), as Audi's authorised distributor in Indonesia has plans to open a local-assembly (CKD) plant in the country, reports our sister site Autofun.co.id.
Stefan Hutahayan, a branch manager for PT GMM, shared that the company has "long had plans" to open said plant, which will be used to produce CKD Audi cars there.
Of course, that was delayed no thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. That said, Hutahayan adds that the plant could be "realised in 2023 or 2024".
This follows as the fully-imported Audi Q3 faces stiff competition from the recently-introduced Mercedes-Benz GLA, as Mercedes-Benz can offer more competitive pricing for their cars by virtue of being locally-assembled in the archipelago.
