Hyundai hasn’t made a proper MPV for years with the Trajet (and its America-only successor, the Entourage) having been discontinued for a decade. The 2021 Hyundai Custo will thus be the Korean Lambang H’s first foray into the body style in years.
Okay, so maybe the Starex and Staria count as MPVs of sorts but I think they’re more van than proper minivans. Technicalities aside, Hyundai’s Chinese partner, Beijing Hyundai has posted teaser images of the Custo on its official Weibo social media page.

Images of the Custo’s exterior and details had previously been published by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). So, the overall silhouette in the teaser does match with the leaked photos.

The grille of the Custo shares some design similarities with the latest Hyundai Tucson, with the DRLs being included in the massive grille. Above that, the teaser also shows the Custo name spelled out in full.
Moving to the rear quarter and we can see that the overall shape does kind of resemble the latest Kia Carnival and it’s no coincidence. Both the Carnival and the Custo are said to be built on the same N3 platform that is also used on the Staria and Tucson.

The Custo is rumoured to be available with two powertrains, both of which are turbocharged and are part of Hyundai’s SmartStream family of engines.
The teaser images only show the exterior silhouette of the Custo but earlier interior spyshots showed that the MPV will be getting a four-spoke steering wheel, a vertical infotainment display, and a push gear selector.
The Custo is said to be only marketed for China but there are rumours that it could be introduced in Malaysia albeit in a more compact design. Could the upcoming Hyundai Stargazer be based off the Custo?
