Maxus charges up the new T60 with more power

Maxus has given its T60 pick-up truck a little refresh that will undoubtedly further strengthen its position as an even better value-for-money proposition. The 2022 Maxus T60 now packs a host of new complimentary upgrades and a bold new face that’ll complement the exceptional safety kit.

For a limited time, all bookings of the refreshed Maxus T60 will be packaged with a complimentary new performance enhancement kit, creatively dubbed the Maxus Performance Kit. It bumps up power to 155 PS but more importantly, it boosts torque figures from the standard 360 Nm to an impressive 425 Nm.

The improved performance figures have also brought upon some improvements to fuel consumption. Previously, the combined figures were 10.4km/l but with the performance kit, it now stands at 11.1km/l.

Power still comes from the same 2.8-litre, 16-valve, DOHC VGT turbodiesel engine and retains the Euro 4 emission standards. Power is delivered seamlessly to all four wheels via the 6-speed Punch automatic with a BorgWarner electronically controlled four-wheel drive system with an Eaton mechanical differential. It allows for switching between the 2H, 4H and 4L on-the-fly.

A Drive Mode select switch allows the driver selection between three individual power modes: Eco, Normal and Power. Eco offers a further 2 percent reduction in fuel consumption over the Normal default setting while Power offers a 5 percent increase in performance. The T60 is rated at a maximum of 815 kg capacity or a towing capacity of 3,000 kg.

Apart from the extra grunt, the T60 now sports a bold new front grille that carries the name of the marque in an understated but elegant shade of matte black. Coupled with the 17-inch wheels, it makes for an extremely formidable-looking machine on the road. The previously available 19-inch wheels are still on the table but on an optional basis for an extra RM3,000.

At the time of its launch, the T60 raised the bar in its segment as the only 4x4 pick-up that offered front and rear ventilated disc brakes and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard.

Safety comprises a Bosch stability control programme, ABS, EBD, BA, traction control and Roll Movement Intervention (RMI). That last recognises the threat of an impending rollover from various sensors and intuitively applies the brakes individually to resist the motion. The vehicle is also fitted with Hill Start Assist Control (HAS) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) for navigating steep inclines and declines.

Completing the extensive list of safety equipment are front and side airbags, automatic headlight adjustment, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, two Isofix anchorage points and a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) that is activated from 30km/h.

The headlights rotate in correspondence to the steering input to illuminate the road ahead. This is in addition to the follow-me-home function, Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and automatic headlight sensing features.

Continuing with the generously equipped them in the cabin, the T60 includes power-adjustable front seats as well as both forward and rearward folding rear seats for extra storage. A total of 15 storage areas within the cabin further add to the convenience and overall cargo volume of 1,188 litres.

“We are proud to announce that the 2022 model is not only refreshed in terms of looks, but also comes with performance options for the growing pick-up truck segment here in Malaysia. The CBU unit is the ideal balance of performance, capability, and safety, and offers the best value for money for a pick-up truck in the current market. We are fortunate our principal has given us priority and sufficient stock for us to supply the current demand here in the country, said Syed Ammar Syed Azman, Chief Executive Officer, Weststar Automotive Division.

Further enhancing the cabin’s premium layout is the multifunction steering wheel with the cruise control audio and switches for the integrated 10-inch HD infotainment touchscreen head unit that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Completing the cabin is a push-start button, automatic air-conditioning, an aluminium luggage rack, side steps, chrome-plated door handles and electric folding mirrors as well as fog lamps.

Priced at RM 115,888, the T60 is also available with an additional RM 1,500 rebate for all bookings but for a limited time only. It gets a 5-year / 130,000 km warranty but more importantly, includes a comprehensive aftersales support package that includes parts, lubricants and labour for a 4-year / 80,000 km duration. That last bit basically means free scheduled maintenance for 4 years, not a bad deal right?

The T60 is available in a multitude of colours comprising Obsidian Black, Agate Red, Lava Grey, Blanc White, Aurora Silver and Ocean Blue.
