2023 Honda WR-V: Ativa killer? Production may start in Dec 2022 in Indonesia

  • Honda RS SUV concept car displayed at GIIAS 2022
  • Speculation suggests Honda “WR-V”
  • Production may start end of 2022
  • Largest in its class compared to its competitors

Honda's latest SUV was camouflaged and displayed at the Honda booth of the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2022.

This is Honda's answer to the Toyota Raize / Daihatsu Rocky (Perodua Ativa), Kia Sonet and Nissan Magnite in Indonesia.

It’s based on the Honda RS SUV concept car, which was revealed at last year’s GIIAS

This is most likely a candidate for the Honda WR-V 2023 and production might start in Dec 2022 in Indonesia according to our colleagues over at Autofun Indonesia.

Although it’s using the same platform as the Honda BR-V, it’s speculated to use the same 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine in the Honda Brio. However, the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine found in the BR-V should not be ruled out.

The City's 1.5-litre DOHC engine could be powering the production version of the SUV RS Concept

The camouflaged Honda WR-V looks identical to the Honda RS SUV concept car. Despite the car is heavily camouflaged, the body line that stretches from the fender all the way to the rear-lights or the C-pillar’s design gives it away that this is based on the RS SUV concept car.

However, there are still some differences in the details such as the design of the headlights where the Honda RS SUV has smaller and more aggressive-looking headlights when compared to the Honda WR-V.

Of course, it remains to be unannounced as to what this camouflaged Honda RS SUV concept car is. Nevertheless, our colleagues at Autofun Indonesia believes that this is the Honda WR-V.

If you pay close attention to the camouflage itself, there are many words starting with the letter ‘W’ that seem to be covered with pixels. For example, “Wow”, “Wander”, “Wit”, “Welcome”, Win”, “Wish”, “Worthy”, and the word “Coming Soon”. These words most likely refer to the actual model’s name: Honda WR-V.

According to Honda, the length of the car is approximately 4,200 mm from the end of the front bumper to the outermost part of the rear bumper.

While the width measures around 1,800 mm. Nonetheless, that’s only a rough estimate and when the car is finally launch it may be different.

Here’s a quick dimension comparison between its B-segment SUV rivals available in Indonesia:

It appears that the Honda RS SUV (WR-V) 2023 would be largest in its segment.
