Not just built tough - Why the 2022 Next Gen Ford Ranger is one of the safest vehicles on sale today

The old adage that goes “better be safe than sorry” couldn’t ring truer than when considering vehicle safety. More than just rough and tough, the 2022 Next Gen Ford Ranger proves that a great pickup truck and class-leading safety don’t have to be mutually exclusive traits.

Simply because it doesn’t matter if you’re at work, with family or at play – safety is paramount.

The 2022 Next Gen Ranger now raises the bar with an improved array of active safety systems that were developed using Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) and validated in hundreds of physical tests to ensure Ford’s vehicle safety criteria were met.

The following are highlights of the 2022 Next Gen Ranger advanced driver assistance features.

Pre-Collision Braking

Available on the 2022 Next Gen Ranger WildTrak and XLT Plus variants, Pre-collision Assist uses both the new, wide-view windscreen-mounted camera and a radar located near the front bumper to scan the road ahead to detect a potential collision with another vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist directly in front of your vehicle.

The Pre-Collision Braking feature is made of two primary features, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) which audibly alerts the driver, and the enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system which automatically applies the brakes to negate or reduce the risk of a collision.

Post Collision Braking

Ford’s post-collision braking system applies the brakes after a collision has already occurred to reduce the risk of secondary collisions. The system automatically engages with moderate brake pressure to bring the 2022 Next Gen Ranger to a stop, thereby reducing the chances of knocking other vehicles, pedestrians or objects.

Post-collision braking is offered as standard on the 2022 Next Gen Ranger WildTrak and XLT Plus variants.

Evasive Steer Assist

The Evasive Steer system gives the steering system a momentary boost in response to evade an impending collision

A segment-first feature, the 2022 Next Gen Ranger’s Evasive Steer Assist allows the driver to steer with less effort when a collision cannot be avoided by braking alone. The system is designed to operate at both urban and highway speeds and employs the same camera and radar used with the Pre-collision Assist feature.

Reverse Brake Assist

Reverse Brake Assist, which helps drivers to avoid or mitigate potential collisions while reversing. The system may detect moving vehicles or stationary pedestrians/objects behind the 2022 Next Gen Ranger and applies the brakes to briefly stop if the driver doesn’t react in time.

Both Evasive Steer Assist and Reverse Brake Assist are offered as standard on the Ranger Wildtrak

Cross Traffic Alert

The newly introduced Cross Traffic Alert activates when in reverse and keeps a lookout for vehicles crossing behind the 2022 Next Gen Ranger.

The Cross Traffic Alert system works hand-in-hand with the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) to give the driver a bird's eye view of everything behind the 2022 Next Gen Ranger, thus making driving a little less stressful.

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go

Akin to premium SUVs, the 2022 Next Gen Ranger WildTrak is equipped with adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go feature. The system allows drivers to set a cruising speed and pacing distance from the vehicle ahead, when that vehicle slows down, the Ranger does too, even down to a stop in traffic. When traffic picks up speed, the Ranger resumes its pre-set speed and distance.

The list of driver assistance features does not stop there, the 2022 Next Gen Ranger Wildtrak for instance, also packs a 360-degree view camera with panoramic view and Lane Keeping Aid (LKA) to provide even more peace of mind when on the roads.
