Here's your first look at MINI's newest design language - all-new, BEV Countryman and Cooper, is that you?

MINI presents a forward-looking design called Charismatic Simplicity for its upcoming all-electric model family. This design language prioritises essential elements for a sleek and minimalistic aesthetic. Though, yes, MINI's describes it as a 'new model family', the cars themselves look a lot like Countryman- and Cooper-sized products.

Semantics aside, a lot of it is pretty nice. Characterised by uniquely-MINI design features, it also integrates sustainable manufacturing into the whole design element. Oliver Heilmer, Head of MINI Design, describes the philosophy behind Charismatic Simplicity as a purist and progressive approach.

β€œWith our new Charismatic Simplicity design language, we are completely rethinking the iconic MINI. Our purist, progressive approach combines the simplicity of functional elements with the emotionality that MINI is renowned for,” he explained.

β€œWe are convinced that the conscious reduction to a few, but expressive elements enable innovations that would have been unthinkable before.”

Familiar-but-new round display

At the core of the refined interior lies the iconic circular central instrument display that defines MINI vehicles. In the upcoming model family, this feature will be reimagined as an OLED display. MINI is pioneering this technology; becoming the world's first car manufacturer to offer a touch display with a fully usable round surface.

The 240-millimeter diameter OLED display seamlessly integrates the instrument cluster and on-board monitor functions, employing a minimalistic interface with integrated infotainment and climate control systems.

New steering wheel and seats

The steering wheel has also been redesigned for the upcoming model family. The standard version features a sleek two-spoke design, while an optional version incorporates a distinctive fabric finish as a third element, enhancing both style and comfort.

Amidst the mix of customisable options, Vibrant Silver serves as a recurring color accent, adding an elegant touch with its shimmering metallic appearance on both the exterior and interior of the vehicle.

The seating options in the new MINI model family provide a fresh blend of colors, patterns, and classic elements like the houndstooth pattern. Laminated side panels on the seats add to a sense of luxury, and integrated armrests seeks to help with bettering comfort.

New wheel designs

The design philosophy of Charismatic Simplicity extends to the completely redesigned light-alloy wheels. Departing from the traditional sculptural spoke structure, the new MINI wheels adopt a graphic design approach characterised by bold color contrasts.

This choice creates an optical illusion of size, accentuated by outward-pointing spokes. The two-dimensional wheel design not only enhances the vehicle's aesthetic appeal but also improves aerodynamic efficiency, leading to increased range.

Through these innovative design highlights, MINI offers a glimpse into the direction set by the Charismatic Simplicity principle. Clean and minimalistic is the name of the game, and it's quite exciting to see how it looks like in the flesh.
