Selling your car soon? Here's some low-cost ways to refresh your car's interior

Over the years of owning your car, the interior would have picked up a fair bit of dirt, in addition to the usual wear and tear.

Here’s some quick and low-cost tips on how you can refresh your car’s interior and maximixe your car's value.

A good cleaning does wonders

First things first. You should give the interior a good cleaning. Take a microfibre cloth soaked in mild soap water and gently clean the plastic surfaces of your car’s interior.

Afterwards, wipe the areas you washed earlier with a different cloth and let it dry.

Apart from giving your car a good wiping, you should also vacuum the interior. Start by vacuuming the seats and carpets of your car. At the same time, it is also recommended to vacuum various nooks and crannies of your car’s interior.

It’s old and it’s broken

For cars that are on the older side, it’s perfectly normal for various parts of the interior to break, given how unforgiving our climate can be.

To ensure that you maximize your car’s value, it’s a good idea to replace these broken parts. See that broken air vent or broken glove box handle? Replace them before selling your car.

This also applies to sagging headliners – an issue that affects a number of European cars in Malaysia.

Those old carpets gotta go

Another overlooked part of a car’s interior are its carpets.

The ones that came with the car naturally gets stepped on every day and it will eventually get damaged over time.

You can either replace with the same type of carpet that came with the car or get some aftermarket carpets. Up to you.

Squeaky old seats that won’t budge

Odd as it may sound, but the seat railings also need to be refreshed, especially if you’re driving an older car.

Lubing your seat rails shouldn’t take much effort, as it’s relatively easy to reach the seat rails. That said, if you have a car with electric seat adjustment, it might be a better idea to get a workshop to lube the seat rails.

Give your old seats a makeover

Wear and tear don’t just affect the dashboard or centre console; your car’s seats are also affected in the long run.

Whether your kid puked or dropped food on the seats, it’s highly recommended to give your seats a once-over before selling your car.

If the seats are dirty, get it cleaned. But if your seats are torn, it might be a good idea to fix the torn part, or re-upholster the seats if the damage is too severe.
