Scored a used child car seat? Have you checked the expiry date?

With the Road and Transport Department (JPJ) waiting for the official green light to start issuing fines for not using a child car seat, many parents are rushing to purchase a seat to avoid needing to pay the expensive fine. But unfortunately, many are looking to second-hand child seats or hand-me-downs from friends and families. Did you know that these child car seats have an expiry date? Yes, all child car seats have an expiry date or shelf life as we call it. There are many factors contributi

Review: 2019 Proton Exora, old car with new tricks, still good enough?

(2019 Proton Exora Premium Price & Specs | Gallery) The Exora is Proton's family car option launched in 2009 and currently the brand's only MPV. In its 10-year production, the MPV went through 3 updates that saw the addition of the turbocharged (but still port injection) engine (Exora Bold) in 2011 and a cosmetic update in 2017. The latest rendition you see here was introduced in 2019. Upgrades in this cycle saw mostly tech additions on the Proton Exora's interior. The MPV now comes with the hea

War of the MPVs with rear-seat entertainment!

Rear seat entertainment display is a luxury that many of us would perceive as a rich man’s toy. Most of us would have the pleasure of pulling up next to a Toyota Alphard or a Vellfire spy a drop down screen behind the driver’s seat (more often than not playing cartoons) and a collective audience tentatively watching. While rear seat entertainment is rather common as an after market accessory, cars like the Kia Grand Carnival and the Nissan Serena S-Hybrid come with one built-in from the factory.

Review: Thai media tests Toyota Corolla Cross; bigger car outside, smaller than HR-V inside?

It's a good time to be fans of cheeky taglines, as UMW Toyota Motor's campaign to promote the imminent-in-Malaysia Toyota Corolla Cross has been taking potshots at Honda Malaysia's 'Your Time is Up' effort. But, as they always say, talk is cheap. Does the Corolla Cross have enough in its arsenal to back up its shoutiness? For that, we'll jump into this review by our AutoFun Thailand colleagues to give you a better idea of what to expect. Exterior - Much bigger in person Thai customers get a choi

JPJ waiting for green light from Transport Ministry to enforce child seat rule

Though the child car seat policy was introduced in January 2020, the Road and Transport Department (JPJ) has yet to fully enforce the use of it in private cars so far. According to a report by Bernama, JPJ is currently just waiting for the green light from the Transport Ministry to do so. As we reported late last year, the child car seat or child restraint system (CRS) rule will start effect in January 2020. The policy for mandatory child seat usage will soon take effect come January 2020, but the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is going lenient with the annoucement that they will not be taking drastic penalising actions as of yet. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced at the Dewan Rakyat recently that he has directed the JPJ to hold off penalising drivers who has yet to conform to the child seat policy for at least 6 months. Quick Review: 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross in Malaysia, the proper benchmark for family SUVs

Toyota Corolla Cross The 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross is now finally launched in Malaysia and we had a brief session with it, bringing you a first drive review of Toyota’s latest SUV. No matter how much “enthusiasts” complain about SUVs, consumers just cannot get enough of tall-riding, big cars, and I am completely on the consumer's side. SUVs are practical, offer great outward visibility and generous ground clearance (especially for our roads). For a sensible family man like myself, what is there

Review: Geely Jiaji (Proton V70), the MPV that Proton desperately needs

This is the Geely Jiaji, which made its debut back in March 2019. It is safe to say that the Geely Jiaji is set to be Proton's next multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Depends on who you ask, the Geely Jiaji may or may not replace the Proton Exora. We are more inclined to believe in the latter, as the Geely Jiaji is a more premium product that's unlikely to fit within the current Proton Exora's price range. But before we get started on this review, we must stress the fact that the China market Geely Ji

Deal breakers: 2019 Proton Saga - Love the car, but its ergonomics needs to be improved

Allow me to begin by saying this isn’t about condemning the 2019 Proton Saga facelift because I genuinely adore it. So much in fact, I have one sitting right at home. At under RM 40k, there are no other cars that pack quite as much value as the Proton Saga. Review: 2020 Toyota RAV4 2.5 – The perfect car for humble rich people

Toyota cars are ubiquitous. The Toyota Vios, Toyota Corolla, and the Toyota Hilux are common sights on our roads. Even Toyota luxury MPVs like the Alphard and Vellfire are seen just about everywhere in Malaysia. However, the same could not be said about the 2020 Toyota RAV4. At a price tag of RM 223,880 (with SST), the 2020 Toyota RAV4 is expensive. And from a value perspective, it doesn't make any sense. The RAV4 doesn't offer much more value over its cheaper rivals, and that further repels pot
