Bookings for turbo 2021 Hyundai Kona 1.6T and N Line now opened – Malaysia launch this month

No more teasing this time. Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has announced that bookings for the turbocharged variants of the Hyundai Kona are now opened and they will be arriving in Malaysia later this month.

The two variants consist of the 1.6 Turbo and the N Line.

The Kona N Line will be the first N Line model for sale in Malaysia. Not to be confused with the red-hot Kona N, the Kona N Line features an aggressive styling trim but performance-wise, it’s not as bonkers.

That being said, the power figures of the turbocharged 1.6-litre SmartStream T-GDi engine offered on both variants of the Kona aren’t something you would ignore. 198 PS and 265 Nm are numbers that would still make you grin, even without the N Grin Shift (NGS) feature.

The preppy 4-pot is paired with a SmartStream 7-speed DCT, Hyundai’s second-generation of its dual clutch transmission.

The Kona N-Line will be the flagship Kona variant in Malaysia. With its distinct motorsports-inspired front and rear end design, you could certainly show off its sporty side.

Inside, the N Line features a dedicated colour package in one-tone black leather combined with suede and features ventilated and heated seats for the driver and front passengers. The distinctive red stitching, metal pedals, and N logo on the gear shift, steering wheel, and seats complete the nefarious sporty look.

Aside from that, the turbocharged Kona variants are also equipped with the Hyundai Smart Sense ADAS suite which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Prices for both turbocharged variants of the Kona have not been announced yet. As it stands, prices of the current top variant of the Kona, the naturally-aspirated 2.0 Active, start from RM 136,888 (with 50% SST discount). So, expect the turbocharged Kona variants to go much higher.
